The client provided designs and requirements for the project. PetCheck and Vetcheck share a database, allowing easy data access between the Vet facing platform and the consumer facing Pet platform. Includes a ‘newsfeed’ for Pet owners, using cronjobs and a set of rules to build a newsfeed item each day, storing a rolling 30 day feed. Built a CSV parse PHP tool for the client to upload a CSV file produced by content writers that then populates relevant MySQL rows.

This project is interesting as the website fills the entire user's screen regardless of how big or small the browser is. Within a range of sizes, it adapts the content to utilise the full space. Use of the latest in CSS3, including: srcset, calc, 40+ svgs, svg animation / manipulation. The map of Australia on the homepage was fun and challenging to create.

As this project utilises many high resolutions images, it was important to get WordPress to be smart with how it resizes and compresses images. For the client, the image upload process is the same as any WordPress website. With the use of srcset, mobile devices download versions of the images that are only a fraction of the size.

I did the front end for this project, but at points dabbled into the back-end of Umbraco and learnt some basics of ASP.NET in the process.

With this project I explored HTML5 video. The videos are hosted on Vimeo, pulled into a HTML5 video container and have custom controls placed upon them and triggers associated. The full screen video at the top of the homepage was fun to implement. Deferring the video load until you click the play button on mobile devices was also interesting to implement.
